Since its inception in 1989, MaiJazz has established itself as one of the oldest festivals in the Stavanger region, evolving from humble beginnings into a prominent cultural event. Its success can be attributed to the collaborative efforts of talented artists, dedicated volunteers, supportive politicians, loyal sponsors, and a growing audience. MaiJazz aims to contribute to the cultural development of the Stavanger region, offering music enjoyment, insight, and reflection, alongside entertainment and enriching experiences for the community.
With renowned artists such as Jan Garbarek, Pat Metheney Group, Herbie Hancock, E.S.T, Joe Zawinul, and Youssou N’dour gracing its stages, MaiJazz has left a significant imprint on the region’s cultural landscape. Recognizing the need for continual growth, MaiJazz is committed to driving cultural development in collaboration with institutions like the University of Stavanger and fostering the development of musicians and audiences alike through innovative programs and partnerships with educational institutions such as Stavanger Cathedral School and the Cultural School in Bjergsted.
