Citizen Jazz is a weekly online magazine dedicated to jazz and improvised music, founded in 2001 by Matthieu Jouan and Alain Le Roux-Marini. It was born in February 2001 from the merger of two jazz magazine websites: So What and Le Jazz. The magazine is published by the association JEMI (Jazz And Improvised Music). Starting from 2015, each week features a cover spotlighting a musician.
In 2016, the title celebrated its 15th anniversary with the release of a printed review titled “Passage en revue: 15 ans de Citizen Jazz” and introduced a new graphic design and logo. In 2021, the title marked its 20th anniversary with the release of a double vinyl featuring unreleased tracks of European jazz titled “XX-Citizen Jazz”.
With an average of over 25,000 monthly visitors, Citizen Jazz is the leading online jazz press in the French-speaking world.
